Tempest Brew Co is proud to announce a brand new beer that’s been six months in the making.

Let us introduce you to Old Parochial.

Our latest brew is an Imperial strength Barrel-Aged Scotch Ale. We have taken a traditional beer style and given it a modern day makeover — with a Tempest twist.

Brewed back in September 2012 using smoked malted barley courtesy of Teviot Smokehouse, and fermented using two different yeast strains specially produced for this beer in our brewery, you might be able to tell we’ve given this brew some extra TLC. It’s been cold matured in the brewery for six months in tank, bourbon and sherry casks, and then lovingly blended together into a powerful contemporary ale with plenty of history.

The resulting beer is huge on the nose with a hit of smoked stone fruit, wood, sweet malt, sherry and spice. Bottled and labelled by hand this ale is a rare breed indeed, and with limited availability it won’t be around for long. So get yours while you can.

At Brauhaus Edinburgh – Thursday 21st March

Following a sneaky sell-out preview at London’s Craft Beer Rising, we’re launching our hotly anticipated Snakebite north of the border. And guess what? You’re invited!

A kick-ass collaboration between two Scottish craft producers – Tempest Brewery and Thistly Cross Cider – this isn’t just the world’s first commercial snakebite, it’s the world’s first craft snakebite as well.

A radical reimagining of an old school classic, our 5.5% blend takes Snakebite to a whole new level; sticking to the iconic half and half mix of cider and beer whilst including home-grown, hand-picked blackcurrants from the Thistly Cross farm.

Want to be part of hisstory and see what all the fuss is about?

Come party with us at the Brauhaus in Edinburgh on Thursday the 21st of March from 8 ’til late to celebrate the arrival of a legend.

Here you’ll get the meet the makers as well as getting the opportunity to try our incredible keg beers and Thistly Cross’ CAMRA-endorsed, dry vintage farmhouse cider – Jaggy Thistle.

Oh, and we promise there won’t be a Cobra in sight.

It’s February, so welcome to the first of our new beers for 2013. We believe in drinkability so for that reason we decided to brew an uber drinkable IPA that works great in cask. To complement the base malts in our take on an IPA we have used some Belgian malt and focused on showcasing the US Centennial hop variety.

We named this beer ‘The Step Back’ because it is dangerously drinkable and as big fans of Soma anthology which we were listening to while we were brewing it, the name stuck!

The Step Back has been released initially in cask to selected outlets this week with a small number of kegs to follow.

A few weeks ago we had the excitement of brewing our first collaboration beer with a fellow Scottish Brewery, Cromarty Brewing.

Cromarty have been making awesome beers over the past few months and through the weird and wonderful world of Twitter and some crazy banter we hatched the idea to brew a beer together.

Emails and call were exchanged, different beers were considered but it was decided we would take a crack at brewing a pumpkin beer! What had we let ourselves in for….

The beer itself uses a fairly complex malt bill, addition of pepper, some of our favourite hops and a barrow load of pumpkins. It is for certain one of the hardest beers done at our brewery and one of the longest brews yet!!

The beer will be available for limited period in cask, keg and bottle, so look out for it. For a sneak tasting of it before anywhere else head on over to one of our favourite bars the Bon Accord (Glasgow) where it will be on the bar on the 31st along with a range of our other beers including our red eye flight on cask as well as a range of exciting stuff from Cromarty and you may also find a brewer or two hanging out to answer a few questions.

So there we have it, we are really excited about this beer it has been a labour of love and pain, we hope you enjoy it.

We are excited to be one off 10 breweries invited to be part of the first Independent Manchester Beer Festival, to be held at the Victoria Baths on the 5th and 6th October.

Here is what the say in their own words;

We’ll be holding a two day celebration of beer mixed with some food, some discussion and some general good times. Our plan is to take the best bits of all the beer festivals we’ve ever been to and combine them into one multi-sensory, headlong, hop forward beer extravaganza, a modest goal I’m sure you’ll agree. The Convention will bring together the UK’s most progressive, forward thinking breweries in unique surroundings presenting the best beers we can get hold off on both cask and keg.

The event will also include:

- Over 30 kegs lines, hosted by the brewers themselves.
- 30 cask lines curated by Port Street Beer House and others.
- the Portable Street Beer House presenting craft beers from here there and everywhere.
- a beer and food pairing dinner*
- pop up tastings
- mini food pairings
- talks and seminars.
- some live music and the like.
- Coffee/Tea provided by North Tea Power and Has Bean.
- food stalls
- Three ticket levels per day to accommodate all comers IMBC Lite(12pm-4.30pm), IMBC Later(5.30pm-11.30pm) and IMBC Max(5.30pm-11.30pm).

*meal included in the IMBC Max ticket priced at £45.

IMBC is brought to you by the team behind Common and Port Street Beer House. IMBC came about through being inspired by the UK’s craft beer movement and frustrated that beer festivals, in their current form, weren’t really representative of this exciting and dynamic part of the industry. We wanted to put on an event that has amazing beer (obviously) but was open-minded, inclusive and modern. We also wanted to put customers in direct contact with the people who make the beer and have our brewers prepare a special exclusive for the Convention. Mix this all in with other crafty practitioners such as North Tea Power, Aumbry and Has Bean and you have a frenzy of good stuff to eat, drink and make merry with.

It’s great that there is an opportunity for craft beer drinkers to come and be part of an interactive event where they can be part of it, ask questions and try some great beers. It is great that a great bar like Port street is putting the effort in to make this happen and we are sure it will be the first of many more to come.

Gavin, Myself and Marko will be in attendance over the two days to pour our beers and answer as many questions as we can. We are not 100% sure what we will be bringing along, but we will have some keg, some cask and always a little different.

Tickets for the sessions are available here http://indymanbeercon.eventbrite.co.uk/ for more information on the festival and participating breweries have a look here http://www.indymanbeercon.co.uk/breweries/

The organisers are also looking for volunteers to get involved and help with the set up and serving. If you love beer and can spare some time in exchange for free tickets let them know http://www.indymanbeercon.co.uk/volunteers/

It is very rare that we have the opportunity to have six of our beers on in the one bar at any one time. We are delighted to be taking over the taps at Blackfriars bar, one of the first bars we supplied in glasgow and all part of Glasgow Beer week.

The following beers will be definately making an appearance; Long White Cloud, A Face With No Name, White Light, Cresta Black and Emanation Pale Ale. Just for good measure our A Face With No Name will be represented in cask and keg to give everyone something to argue about.

It is less than a week away, perfect short notice for an event that neither ourselves or Blackfriars knew about until last week, amazing what can happen in a week! It should be an excellent evening, Allan will be there to introduce the beers and brewery and to answer any quesions anyone might have.

Make sure you come down and join us for a beer or two.

It has taken a while, but the updated website is finally here. Now there is a place to find out about the brewery, news (other than facebook & twitter – keep checking those as well), where to find our beer, tasting notes, downloads. There will be plenty more stuff being uploaded so keep checking back…

It’s not all been just the website that’s been keeping us busy. This year following on from last year has been a whirlwind of some awesome new beers, great new accounts across the UK, experiments with small batch bottles and kegs, with still lots to come.

The brewery has reached its maximum capacity for the building it is in, to try and keep up with demand we are now looking into new premises, new brewhouse, exports, more special projects, webshop, and more.

However we wouldn’t be were we are without the people who enjoy and rate our beers, cheers!

As always keep providing us with ratings, comments and feedback.
