So Long, 2015! - Part Three: Favourite Events
11 Jan 2016
This guy has been on the radar for a while, but as usual trying to squeezemore juice out of our brewery is never easy and faced with a busy summer of production the brewplan got delayed a little. It was the fantastic July weather and the juicy Scottish fruit which we were enjoying that became the inspiration for this summer harvest Borders ale.
So Long, 2015! - Part Three: Favourite Events
Everyone loves a good event, and we're no different. With more team members and everything falling into place with the brewery, we were able to do more events in 2015. We love doing any kind of event, from big festivals to meet the brewers to beer dinners, it’s always a fantastic opportunity to meet the people who actually drink our beer. It’s really cool to see the beers outside the brewery, with people enjoying them who are excited and interested to talk to us about them. Plus, we normally have a few drinks too so we can't complain! Favourite Events Gavin’s favourite of the year was our Longer White Cloud Meet the Brewer with Cornelius Beers in October. We’re good friends with James, and were excited to collaborate on the event. In a tiny room packed with people, most of the team went along and shared beers with everyone, telling our story, and enjoying some tasty food down at The Safari Lounge in Edinburgh. Going all the way back to March, Doug’s favourite was the Great Scottish Beer Celebration ran by Hippo Beers in Glasgow. “Excellent crowd, not many were beer experts by any means but all super appreciative to try a few new and different beers. Also got pretty tipsy on the Saturday night – as did many of the other brewers there - and had a good laugh!” Graeme agreed, in fact he couldn't have answered quicker or with more enthusiasm! "It was great because it was just a beer festival for people who wanted to drink a lot of beer. It wasn't small half pints with a lot of sniffing and discussion, it was just lots of people having a great time drinking great big pints of good beer. Plus we were beside Babu Kitchen who make amazing food!" Shannon chose one of our most recent events, our beer dinner with The Hanging Bat in celebration of the return of our barrel aged imperial Scotch ale, Old Parochial. “I used to work at the Bat and I just love the team there and how passionate and knowledgeable they are, plus Joe is just a total joy to work with on anything. The night was fantastic, the food was incredible, and most of the team was there so we all got a good chance to relax with each other." “The audience was so engaged and amazing too. There’s a real friendship I feel between our team and theirs.” For a lot of bars and bottle shops, Kate is the voice of Tempest. So it does make sense that Kate’s favourite event last year was our Trade Open Night down at the brewery. “It was great because I got to meet a lot of people I speak to on a regular basis, it was strange not speaking to them on the phone!” The Year Ahead… It’s been a wild ride of a year in 2015 for Tempest. We released Longer White Cloud, Double Shuck, Harvest IPA, Saison du Pommes, Saison Cider, A Face With No Name…like we said, almost too many to count! We collaborated with Beer52 and Thistly Cross and BrewDog, we started exporting to countries around the world, we took on new team members, went to loads of Meet the Brewer events, and we’ve had an amazing time doing it. For the year ahead, the common theme for everyone's hopes is expanding what we've already started doing. You can likely guess which areas everyone is each looking forward to. Gavin and Doug are excited to look into new equipment, technology, ingredients, styles, and everything related to see what more we can conjure up in the year. And Kate and Shannon are both looking forward to seeing what new pubs and bars and bottle shops take on the beer, as well as seeing how our new and expanding export markets get along! We want to take the opportunity to thank all our bars, bottle shops, and pubs who support us, and everyone who drinks our beer. Without you all, we wouldn’t have the drive to do what we do and we hope you’ll all join us this year for whatever 2016 throws our way. In return, we’ll keep creating new and exciting beers, and pushing the world of brewing to its limits. We’ve already got loads of new beers in the pipeline, and a ton of festivals and events booked for the first half of the year which we cannot wait to see you at! From all of us here at Tempest, we hope you have an awesome 2016!
